Westport, Ontario: The Perfect Spot for A Romantic Weekend

Last month, my boyfriend Darren took me for a romantic weekend getaway to Westport, Ontario, to celebrate my birthday. Westport is a quaint village and is Ontario’s smallest municipality by land area. It is a beautiful, quiet town overlooked by the Foley Mountain Conversation Area.

We stayed in the Blue Room of The Victorian Luxury Suites for two nights. The Victorian Luxury Suites is a lovely inn with updated renovations and amenities, while still maintaining the cozy, classic feel. The room had a nice kitchenette with a toaster, mini fridge, Keurig machine and a sink. The bathroom and TV were very nice as well. A very generous continental breakfast was included with our stay that included yogurt, croissants, muffins, and fruit.

Activities

We spent the weekend relaxing and taking little walks around the village. It was raining on and off but that didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves! There are several touristy shops to explore that sell specialty foods, clothing, and home dΓ©cor items. We visited The Village Green and Rosie Yumski’s Fine Foods and enjoyed browsing through the various items. The shops in Westport close quite early which makes sense for such a small town. In the evenings, since it was raining, we took the opportunity to rest in our room and watch trashy TV. There was a 90 Day FiancΓ© marathon playing on TLC! On Sunday morning, we walked up to the Foley Mountain Conservation area. It’s about 20 mins by foot or 5 minutes by car. We decided to walk since we were not planning on staying there long. We visited the lookout and enjoyed the view of Westport down below. There are many trails to explore but Darren is not much of a trail person, and it also started raining again so we made our way back down to Westport.

Food

In terms of dining, we tried the Lost Penny Pub on our first night. I had a BBQ chicken flatbread and Darren had a burger. The food was delicious! On our second night we tried the Tangled Garden Cafe. The food was alright but nothing to blow us away. I had the chicken parm and Darren had another burger. Their dessert was quite good though! I had a coconut cream pie and Darren had key lime pie.

We also stopped at the Vanilla Bean CafΓ© and Creamery. I enjoyed this little shop a lot. They have a lot of indoor seating available which was perfect since it was raining. The ice cream was delicious and so was the iced americano I ordered.

If you are looking for a quiet, romantic getaway, I recommend visiting Westport. In my opinion, after two days you will have seen nearly all the town has to offer. I wouldn’t recommend a week long stay unless you plan on driving and exploring small towns nearby, or perhaps spending more time hiking in the Foley Mountain Conservation Area trails. Two days was just perfect for us.

Are you planning to visit any small towns this summer? Thanks for reading!
