Essence Mascara Review: Lash Princess and Lash Like a Boss

Hello lovely readers. I am always on the hunt for a drugstore bargain mascara. I’ve used Essence mascaras many years ago, but then sorta forgot about them since I often receive mascaras in my Ipsy glam bag. I ran out of mascara and decided to try some from Essence once again. Here are my thoughts on the Essence Lash Princess mascara and the Essence Lash Like A Boss mascara.

Lash Princess Mascara

The Essence Lash Princess mascara has a big fluffy angled brush. The brush definitely makes coating your lashes easy, but the product needs to be applied carefully to prevent clumps. I use the flat side to apply the mascara, and build up several coats. This mascara gives awesome volume and length. Unfortunately, it can tend to slightly flake throughout the day. It’s bizarre because this doesn’t happen to me every single time I wear it. This mascara is also not waterproof at all and smudges at the slightest hint of water… if it’s raining, snowing, or you laugh so hard that you cry, you’ll need a damage-control session in front of the mirror! Overall, this is a great mascara for the unbelievable price of $5.99 CAD.

Lash Like a Boss Mascara

The Essence Lash Like A Boss mascara has a plastic brush with a slight curve. This makes the product application easier and prevents clumping. However, the volume and length are not as dramatic as the Lash Princess mascara. Don’t get me wrong, the volume and length are still quite good. Perhaps more professional looking, hence the name? The downfall of the Lash Like A Boss mascara is that it transfers. Near the end of the day, I’ll notice faint black marks under my eyebrows where my eyelashes touch my skin. These marks can easily be wiped away without destroying the rest of my eye makeup, but they are a bit of an annoyance. I would still recommend this mascara as it is great for the price of $5.99 CAD.

If I had to pick a favorite out of the two, it would be the Lash Princess mascara. I do enjoy the extra drama, the name, and the pink and black packaging. As I mentioned, both these mascaras are an excellent value for their low price. Essence has many other mascaras I believe are worth trying as well. I checked my blog archive and I did talk about two different Essence mascaras back in 2012 and in 2017. Those blog posts are blast from the past if you care to have a read. What is your go-to value mascara? Thanks for stopping by!
