My Top Three Favorite Christmas Movies

Hello dear readers! In today’s Blogmas post, I’ll be sharing my top three favorite Christmas movies with you. These are movies I watch year after year, and which give me all the Christmas feels. I’ll be naming two honorable mentions as well.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas – 2000

This is the live action version of the classic Dr. Suess’s children’s book by the same name, starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch. I remember the first time I watched this movie, I thought it was a slightly odd. I was 10 years old when it originally released, and the Grinch frightened me a tiny bit! However, over the years, the movie really grew on me. I now find it hilarious! I love the Grinch’s sarcasm and self depricating humor. One of my favorite scenes is where he checks his schedule and sees it’s already fully booked with “wallowing in self-pity, staring into the abyss, and wrestling with his self-loathing”! Talk about how #adulting feels some days…

Elf – 2003

Elf is about Buddy, a human who is raised by elves in the North Pole. Buddy is quite the opposite of the Grinch. He’s ultra positive and bursting with cheer! I can definitely relate to Buddy’s diet. I personally have a massive sweet tooth, so I’m all for the elves’ four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup. Anyone eating that much sugar is bound to be happy all the time!

A Charlie Brown Christmas – 1965

This movie is definitely a classic. Charlie Brown is feeling blue despite the holiday buzz, and searches for the true meaning of Christmas. As a child, I remember being completely mesmorized by the melody of Christmas Time is Here. I was a big fan of Peanut’s growing up, and even had a Snoopy plushie that I kept on my bed. I enjoy the nostalgia that rewatching this movie brings me.

Honorable Mentions

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – 1989

This is another Christmas classic. Clark Griswold tries his best to have a fun, wholesome family Christmas. Unfortunately, he is met with multiple (hilarious!) fails. I only just saw this movie for the first time last year, much to my boyfriend’s chagrin, as it is one of his all time favorites. It leaves you rooting for the goofy, lovable, Clark. I really enjoy the 80s themes!

Bad SantaΒ – 2003

I’ll start by saying that Bad Santa is not for everyone. It’s a dark comedy, but it’s the type of movie that makes you think (to quote my boyfriend). A mall Santa, Willie, and his Elf assistant, Marcus, are secretly seasoned robbers. They loot the shopping malls they work at on Christmas Eve. Willie is a depressed alcoholic with a string of personal problems. He eventually meets a young boy who refuses to leave him alone. Willie is forced to take a hard look in the mirror. We learn that deep down, he does have a heart.

What are your favorite Christmas movies? I hope everyone is almost ready for Christmas! Thanks for reading πŸ™‚
